Omega-3-Fettsäuren nach Myokardinfarkt: Senkung der Mortalität durch antiarrhythmische Effekte

Untersuchungen an Grönland-Eskimos [3] deuteten Mitte der 70er Jahre an, dass der Verzehr von Fisch, welcher besonders reich an den hochungesättigten Omega-3-Fettsäuren ist, mit einer verminderten Inzidenz der koronaren Herzkrankheit assoziiert ist (zur Synthese der Omega-3-Fettsäuren aus Omega-6-Fettsäuren siehe [Abb. 1]. In Beobachtungs- und Kohortenstudien, wie z. B. der amerikanischen Physician"s Health Study [1], der Health Professionals Study [2], der Zutphen-Studie [17] oder des Multiple Risk Factor Intervention Trial [10] zeigte sich eine signifikante Korrelation zwischen einem vermehrten Verzehr von Fisch und einer verminderten kardiovaskulären Mortalität. Besonders deutlich wurde ein protektiver Effekt von Omega-3-Fettsäuren in den bisher publizierten Interventionsstudien bei Patienten nach akutem Myokardinfarkt. In jeder dieser Studien erhielten die Patienten Omega-3-Fettsäuren zusätzlich zur anerkannten Pharmakotherapie.
